Howdy!
This past weekend I met The Costco Guys at Collect-A-Con Los Angeles. Yes, it was surreal. No, The Rizzler wasn’t there. Yes, I was disappointed by that.
HUGE shout out to Sean Baker and Mikey Madison and the entire Anora team for all of their extremely well-deserved Oscars wins. I don’t need to gush about the movie here (I already did that back in November), but if you haven’t seen it you really owe it to yourself to watch it. I’m pretty sure you can rent it online, or even better - go see it in theaters (AMC and others have re-released it). Long live independent cinema!
If you missed it, Conan’s Oscars monologue was great too.
Here are some Things I’ve Been Enjoying:
Reminder: your entire online experience could probably be a lot better and more secure than it currently is. Uninstall Google Chrome and use Mozilla Firefox. Set your phone’s default web browser to private. Install a good ad blocker. Sign up for a VPN (referral link). Use a password manager. Bypass paywalls. Take back your internet rights!
What happened to decades? Why do we only talk about “generations” now? Are the ways that we talk about ourselves actively destroying how we interact with each other? This was a great watch.
If you’ve ever wondered how gigantic cruise ships are built, here’s a 3-minute timelapse of the entire process. It looks like a massive LEGO set being put together section by section. Human engineering is really mind-boggling.
What happens when you tell people they can’t use the internet on their smartphones for two weeks? Unsurprisingly, a lot of good stuff. If you want to experience some of these benefits, the article includes some pretty practical advice and tangible steps you can take to boost your mood.
Why are octopuses punching fish? (this sounds like a joke, but it’s not. it includes some fun videos and raises some pretty crazy questions about marine life)

Happysad Obituary Section: RIP James Harrison, the man whose blood saved 2.4 million babies. RIP Leon the Lobster, who was rescued from a grocery store. RIP Gene Hackman, forever my favorite of the Tenenbaums.
While I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Danish film The Girl With The Needle, it did send me down a rabbit hole where I learned a lot about the handcrafted facial prosthetics of WWI.
Everyone should have a bag that’s packed and ready to go in case of emergencies. These are called many things - grab bags, go bags, bug out bags, etc. What you pack in it is ultimately up to you, but I found this list to be a great starting point while constructing my own.
After nearly 10 years as one of the highest-grossing comedy podcasts of all time, Cum Town, the show that brought us Seth Dickfield, Red-Pilled Homer, and Nigerian Shark Tank - possibly the greatest “center-left” program the world will ever know - has finally recorded its final episode. This show got me through COVID and much more. Sayonara boys.
